Val received the University of Victoria Faculty of Social Science 2014 award for Outstanding Community Service. Val is honoured to have his name on a plaque of The Wolf carved by renowned artist Charles Elliot that’s on display in the Office of the Dean of Social Sciences. The Wolf is a protector spirit, a guardian of knowledge. The award recognizes Val’s work with students in conducting community projects to restore the environment and his community outreach work, in particular the annual Speaker Series in October and the Urban Restoration Walks in February.
